Besides the Prague Castle, Stare Mesto is the oldest part of the city. However, it’s not nearly as well preserved as Mala Strana, but that’s because the city has to live as well. From the Jewish Quarter to Wenceslas Square, from the Charles Bridge to the National Theater, Stare Mesto has amazing things to offer and see.
If you come from the Charles Bridge, walking from either the Kampa Apartment, The Vlasska Apartments or Prokopska Apartment, you’ll be let out directly into the “King’s Walk,” which is an amazing little street packed with shops and vendors and pickpockets. Be careful around here. But don’t let it deter you. The street will wind its way through the old city and eventually end up in Old Town Square where you can view the amazing Astronomical clock.
If you are staying in Benediktska Apartment or Spanelska or Olivova, then you’ll be coming from different directions to Old Town Square. Beneditkska Apartment is just off of Old Town Square near Revolucni Street and a lovely walk up Dlouha Street will land you in Old Town Square. If you are in Spanelska Apartment or Olivova Apartment, then you’ll stroll down Wenceslas Square and through some very small lanes until you too end up in Old Town Square.
From Old town Square walk towards the river down Parziska Street (Paris Street). The fanciest shops in Prague are on this street and even if you can’t afford to buy anything here, it’s great window shopping. There is an amazing ice cream shop called the “Cremeria del Milano” run by our pal Guido and believe it, the ice cream is really great. Parziska street is also an amazing street because it contains some of the most beautiful art-deco and art nouveau buildings in the world. Also, down Parziska street is the old Jewish quarter where you can go to the ancient Jewish cemetery.
Whatever you do, make sure you get lost in Stare Mesto, there is more to do, see and eat than we can possibly describe, but don’t miss it.
