Just up the street from the Vlasska Apartments is Petrin. Actually, the Vlasska Apartments reside on the side of Petrin Hill, as do many of the foreign embassies. Prague Accommodation’s Prokopska Apartment lays conveniently at the foot of Petrin. If you need to get out and walk your dog or just go for a romantic quiet walk away from the crowds, then head off and up Petrin.
Petrin hill is a network of eight different Prague City Parks and walking up the 318 meter tall hill will afford you many wonderful views of Prague. Petrin was originally covered by vineyards, but in the 18th century they were ripped up and replaced by gardens and orchards.
At the top of the hill is the Stefanik Observatory and the Observation tower, an exact 1/3 duplicate of the Eiffel Tower. For kids there is also a mirrored maze, next to the Observation tower. One can easily walk up Petrin from all over on the Mala Strana side of the river, from the Prague Castle, the Strahov Monastery, or from Ujezd street.
On the southern side of the Petrin is the “Wall of Hunger” which was built by the poor of the city in return for food in the 14th century. It’s well worth spending an entire afternoon exploring the whole of Petrin as there are many surprises to be found on its walkways and byways.
