Mala Strana, known in English as the “lesser town“, is in fact neither. This quarter of the city, and where our Vlasska Apartments are and Prokopska Apartment is, is, perhaps the most beautiful part of Prague. Mala Strana stretches from just underneath the Prague Castle district to the Charles Bridge, down the river past Kampa Park and just under the Petrin Hill.
You’ll find fabulous restaurants and wonderful bars you will be certain to find in Mala Strana, but perhaps best of all, you’ll have a chance to see Prague at its ancient best. You see, there has been no new construction allowed in Mala Strana since the 18th century. Streets haven’t been widened and they remained cobbled and difficult to walk on, adding to the charm of the quarter.
Nobles who settled in Prague built fabulous mansions in Mala Strana and various kings who inhabited the Prague Castle built and extended the Gardens down the front of the hill almost to the new Senate building.
After you have finished walking down through the Prague Castle, take some time to stroll down Nerudova Street, stop into the St. Nicholas Church, look at the gardens behind the Wallenstein Palace, visit the Vrtba Garden and take a slow stroll through Kampa Park. You can be assured that if you spend just one day in Mala Strana, it will not be enough.
