Janska 7, historically known as the Birmanovsky house, dates from the Renaissance. During the Baroque Period in 1667 and again during the Classicist Period, the house underwent significant renovation benefiting from the skills of renowned Prague master architect Ignac Palliardi and his carpenter, Jakub Fleischinger. The building is situated in the very heart of Prague’s Mala Strana and is a UNESCO registered Cultural Monument.

Janska street is at the foot of the Prague Castle, nestled between Strahov and Petrin Gardens. The tiny, quiet, cobbled dead-end street is a few steps from bustling Nerudova Street above and a stone’s throw from the US and German embassies below. And because Janska 7 is at the end of the cul-de-sac, the only sounds one is likely to hear are the birds twittering in the Petrin Gardens or the fountain burbling in the courtyard.

In 2005 the building underwent a massive renovation, modernizing the plumbing, electricity, heating; and yet the character of the building remained unchanged. The interior courtyard, once a place where the residents would hang laundry and toss out their chamber pots, has been turned into an oasis of peace. A stone garden has been planted with small trees and the fountain masks the noise of the city. The best of modern technology has been combined with the timeless design of the building to give our clients the best of both worlds.

All of our apartments have been reconstructed to the highest standard and include restored historical elements such as wooden ceilings, stone walls, an interior sandstone staircase with a wrought-iron railing, interior balconies, wooden windows and parquet floors. Some apartments feature private balconies and some even have their own gas fireplaces to help pass those brisk winter evenings in coziness and warmth.
